Here Ziggyzumba dissects one of the newest threats in the replica market: Chinese copies of the ETA 6497-2. Up to this time one of the easiest ways of spotting a fake Panerai (which uses a version of this movement) was to simply LISTEN. Because the replicas were based on the slower 6497-1 movement, genuine watches had 6 "ticks" per second versus the 5 ticks of the fakes.
The ever-inventive Chinese have copied the faster 6497-2 movement, and have even duplicated the swan-neck bridge that is the signature of the Panerai movement. Ziggy takes one apart and compares the movement to an Swiss ETA one. A great read for any Panerai buyer on the market for a new watch.
Well here it is, the review of the Chinese copy of the ETA 6497-2 (Not Unitas, they have been out of business for years...).
First thing I tried was the lume quality to see if it had been improved, unfortunately not...

and neither has the recessed cannon and hour wheels...

here’s the watch performance as delivered, the beat is out and it’s running about +10 seconds per day

here’s the movement dial side view

various detailed pictures...

boy if this doesn’t look like an ETA balance, regulator and stud, I don’t know what does...

wait a minute, what’s this ???

plates are glued on, see the glue squeezed out in this picture...

more detail shots,
