Will ETA 6497-2 movements parts fit or not? I can’t tell since I don’t have a -2 (not at $400 a copy). Is this a show stopper would I not buy the movement because the ETA parts may not fit..., I don’t think so.
The movement was clean, but not oiled well, there was some oil in the balance cap jewels, but little anywhere else...so this would be a problem if the watch was not serviced within a reasonable time after getting it. But most movements are not oiled as delivered, so this is not unusual or unique to this particular model, they all have this problem to some extent.
The real test of any watch, is the results on the watch analyzer, this is where the wheels meet the pavement, or the proof is in the pudding...
So lets put the movement on the timer machine, and have a look.
Here’s the watch on the pickup stand, don’t be fooled by the apparent age of this analyzer, it’s not "computerized" but I can tell you that it is one of the best timers ever made, and many commercial shops still use it. If you know what to look for, it can tell you exactly the condition of the movement.

Here’s the actual analyzer

The pickup is moveable so you can test the watch "timed in 5 positions", here is how it’s done...
This would be the CD Crown Down position,

CR or Crown Right

here is the trace after service, note the beat is still out, so I will adjust it (how this is done is a topic for anther day)

trying to get the beat right,

Ok, after a few minutes, I finally get it, you can see the change in the trace, it’s now 2 lines, each line is the pallet stone touching the escape wheel...the "Tic and Toc"

So I adjust the rate to about +10 seconds a day dial up and dial down...
And I test it in various positions to see if there are any gross errors...it looks great.

Conclusions.
Well these reviews take up too much time, this one has consumed 5 hours alone...sorry for the delay...but it’s time consuming.
I think it’s a great movement, you can see for yourself. It runs at 21,600 BPH (6 ticks per second, vs 5 on the ETA -1 model).
