This replica Panerai is one of a new breed: high-end replicas based on Asian movements instead of Swiss ETA. This example has a working power reserve. The one major flaw, the incorrect datewheel color, is said to be corrected (this particular watch is a prototype). Typical fake Panerai flaws exist, such as the thin crown and incorrect polished crown guard.

The Panerai PAM 127, 1950, or just "Fiddy" is one of the most popular modern Panerais on the market. Some of the fakes use very accurate cases, and even use movements that emulate the correct movement. But then they fall short on dial quality, and incorrect hands and crystal.

The Panerai PAM-172 is a limited edition watch made from an uncommon metal called "Tantalium". This metal is hard to work with but has a unique appearance; it's sort of titanium looking in my opinion. It's limited production numbers means it's a hot watch, with Panerai only making 500 examples.

Fake examples of the Panerai PAM-172 Tantalum are available with decent quality. It's basically a derivation of the standard Panerai PAM-111 watch, but made with a different metal. It also has blued-steel hands and an inset seconds area on the dial.

Common flaws on fake Panerai PAM-111s are evident on this watch: thin crown, poor crown guard, inset cannon pinion (see Ziggy's article). All in all the examples we've seen are average quality Panerai replicas; easy to spot for people who know what to look for.

The Blackseal is one of the most successfully replicated Panerais on the market.  It simple design and lack of crown guard makes it vulnerable to the replication techniques the counterfeiters use.  Early replicas had the incorrect base movement, which more recent versions have the correct swan-neck movement which makes them much more difficult to detect.
