This is an example of an earlier high-end Rolex Daytona replica.  It used either a Swiss (genuine ETA) or Asian (copied ETA) 7750 movement.  The 7750 has sub-dials spaced farther apart than the genuine Daytona movement, and this is evident on this copy.  There is an unnatural appearance to the subdials.  Also note that the second hand is at 9 o'clock on this replica, instead of at 6 o'clock as it is on current genuine Daytonas.

Recently a modified version of the ETA 7750 movement has shown up in replica Daytonas with the correct sub-dial spacing and second hand located at the 6 o'clock position. These are some of the most accurate fake Rolex Daytonas on the market. Most replica Daytonas, as with the example shown below, use a copy of the ETA 7750 made in Asia. Reliability is very spotty, and this model still includes subtle flaws (such as the ill-shaped crown guards).

Recently replicas of vintage Rolex models have become very popular. When shopping for a genuine classic Rolex it always pays to purchase from a reputable and well-known source. Many of the lastest Daytona vintage replicas are accurate enough to accept genuine parts such as crystals and bezels.

The hands are typically inaccurate on these fake Daytonas, as well as poor (if not missing) luminosity on the dial. Typically, fake Daytonas are fairly easy to spot.

The closest thing to the "perfect" replica Rolex may be this Explorer I copy. The Explorer I is such a basic watch that it manages to avoid most of the common Rolex replica flaws, such as the crown guards. This particular example is quite well made, and is an indication of the improved quality of replica watches in general in the last twelve months. When purchasing a Rolex Explorer I it's best to stick with reliable dealers or purchase new. Fake Explorer Is are fairly common.

The Rolex Explorer II is a difficult watch to duplicate because of the function of the GMT hand. Many fake Explorer 2 examples exist, but with obvious flaws such as an extra-wide GMT hand, or the GMT hand actually functioning as a 24-hour hand. Also replica Explorer II examples tend to have inaccurate bezel font print (not bold enough) and poor maginifaction of the date. Also note on some replica Rolex Explorer 2 models that the date font is too bold and "fat". This seems to be a recent problem.
